Well I guess I should start at the very beginning! I found out I was pregnant when I was about 2 1/2 months along - I had no real symptoms and I had been let down in the past when I thought I was pregnant and turned out not to be. So when I went to the doctor I really was not expecting it to be good news! After my test I waited for a few minutes, then the nurse came out and got me - she showed me the paper and said my test was "positive". I just looked at her and in shock asked "does that mean I am pregnant"? LOL She said yes it does, then asked me if this was good news. I was like "ummm YEAH!" Needless to say, I was still in shock all the way home. I told Chris when I got home and we were both excited. I decided the next person to know should be my mom since she is my best friend too, but she was working at that time - so I called her work and found out when her next break would be and busted my butt to get into town to tell her over her break. I waited outside the building for a few minutes after telling them to let her know I was waiting - I saw her walking along the side of the building and I just said "guess what" and she dropped everything in her hands and started crying and ran and hugged me :) She knew how long I had wanted to have a baby so it was a great moment for us both.
And so it began, the doctor appointments, blood tests, and of course the joy! It took all I had to wait on my first ultrasound to find out whether I was having a boy or girl! I was absolutely sure I was going to have a boy because I had my heart so set on a girl! So when it came time to have the ultrasound, I waited impatiently to find out, and the nurse said "It's a girl". I almost passed out I was so surprised! I had about 10 ultrasounds while I was pregnant and every time I asked them if they were SURE I was having a girl LOL. The ultrasound pictures were awesome and I had to show them off to everyone at work and it was pretty obvious from the pictures that I was indeed having a girl :D
I had a very easy pregnancy, no morning sickness, no real symptoms other than just a little queasiness here and there - my desk at work was right next to the lunch room and I remember the day someone brought in left over fish and warmed it up, that was probably the worst LOL I was never really uncomfortable, slept through the night with no problems up to the day I gave birth. At about 4 1/2 months along I started to have the butterfly feeling in my stomach, and I knew it was her starting to kick a little bit! It was the coolest feeling in the world to me :) It just kept getting more noticeable, one day I was sitting at work she kicked me so hard my leg jerked to the side and I was like WOW this kid is just like her mom! Definitely a fighter!
At about 7 months I had the test for gestational diabetes and it came back high so I had to go have a wonderful 3 hour test at the hospital where they gave me a dose of something like Gatorade but it was like pure sugar and I was literally bouncing off the walls, then they tested my blood every 15 minutes for a few hours. Well all that came back high too so I had to go on a special diet - I could have 15 carbs for breakfast, 15 for mid-morning snack, 30 for lunch, 15 afternoon snack, 45 dinner and then 15 for night time snack. Man was that hard, I had to give up regular pop! But I kept my sugar under control with just a little medication. But I had bi-weekly ultrasounds and then on the other weeks I had to have stress tests. Abby was always asleep when they did the stress tests, always had to do something to try to wake her up so they could do them LOL!
So on November 10, 2006 I went in for my last ultrasound and they said Abby was about 9 pounds and the doctor decided to induce labor on November 13 Monday if I hadn't started by then. Well Monday rolled around and NO sign of labor, so at around 8 pm I checked into Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne and got settled in for a long few days. About 6 am Tuesday morning November 14 they put me on Potosin to induce labor, gave me the Epidural in my back and I laid there all day pretty much just in and out of sleep - never felt one contraction or anything for that matter! But unfortunately Abby's heart rate kept decelerating and after the doctor broke my water to try to get things going faster, at about 7 pm she decided to do a C-Section. I cried so hard because I was so scared to have surgery, especially knowing I would be awake for it! So they wheeled me into the operating room and got me all prepped and gave me even more Epidural which numbed me up to my nose. So there I laid waiting for them to start thinking it was taking forever when all of a sudden I hear a baby crying :D I hear the doctor say "oh she's small" and knew it was over.
Abby was born on November 14, 2006 at about 8 pm - weighing in at just 6 pounds 7 1/2 ounces and 18 inches long. She was doing really well so far, everything looked good. When I was finished with the surgery they put me into recovery and all of a sudden I hear my mom coming and asking "is she okay?" - she couldn't wait any more LOL. I was shaking pretty badly from the Epidural, and that scared her but she saw Abby and just started crying again (my mom cries all the time, so it wasn't really a big shocker) ROFL love you mom! So she sat down beside me and held her 2nd grandbaby (the first was my brother and sister-in-law's daughter Jordan) and fed her for the very first time! Then of course came the first pictures, Daddy, Grandma, Nanny (Daddy's mom), and Uncle Timmy who is Daddy's brother were the ones who were there when she was born :)
